Healthy eating, not dieting

Healthy eating should never feel like a chore. The key is finding healthy foods you enjoy. Once you’ve achieved this – you’ll never feel like you’re on a ‘diet’.

Hopefully, these tips can help you get started.

Healthy choices

Choose high-fibre and wholegrain foods over white versions. Go for lower fat and lower sugar options. But always read the labels.

Certain products like low-fat yoghurt can be packed with sugar. Especially flavoured ones. Plain yoghurt with a few strawberries is a healthy and tasty alternative.

Try to eat less processed meat. You could even try a ‘veggie’ day once a week.

Colourful foods

Different coloured fruits and veg have different types of nutrients in them. Eating a variety of colours means you’re getting a wide range of nutrients into your body.

This can boost your immunity and keep you energised throughout the day.

Moderation

Having the occasional cake isn’t a crime. It’s only an issue when it’s not occasional. Cutting foods out altogether makes them harder to resist. Focus on moderation, not elimination.

You’ll find it easier to stick to your resolutions to eat healthier.

Persevere

Changing your eating habits takes time. It’s normal to have days where you slip up and make unhealthy choices. Remember – they’re just minor setbacks – it doesn’t mean you should give up your good intentions.

Remember your reasons for making changes and carry on.

Enjoy your food

This is the most important part of healthy eating. If you don’t enjoy your food, your mood can be affected. This may result in unhealthy choices.

With some careful planning, you can find foods you enjoy and look forward to eating.

There’s so much to choose from now. Cuisines and recipes from around the world.

With a few tweaks – healthy eating will become second nature.
