Is skipping for kids?

Skipping ropes aren’t just for kids. They’ve been a boxing staple for many years. And they offer a range of health benefits.

All-round fitness

Skipping works the lower and upper-body muscles. It’ll strengthen your core. Tone your arms and shoulders. And give you those famous boxers’ calves.

Skipping also improves your balance and coordination. These skills can help you move better and lower your risk of falls in later life.

Improves heart health

Skipping’s a great cardio workout. It can lower blood pressure and improve circulation. This helps prevent fat from clogging up your arteries.

A portable workout

Skipping has a similar intensity to running. You can even ramp up the pace and do sprint intervals. The great thing is – you can do these workouts wherever – and whenever you like.

Time efficient

The government recommends adults (19-64) should do 150 minutes of moderate or 75 minutes of vigorous activity per week.

These are only guidelines though. And the minutes can be broken up throughout the day. This can help prevent long periods of being sedentary.

For example, skipping can be done in several short bursts. This could include 5 minutes in the morning, afternoon, and evening. This can help prevent the boredom of long workouts.

Burns calories

Skipping’s also a great way to use up some extra calories. You can burn around 10 – 15 calories per minute.

A few short bursts a day, over a week, equals a lot of burnt calories!

Affordable

A rope will only set you back a few pounds too. And it takes up minimal space. You can even stuff it in your bag and take it to work.
